The hype surrounding this summer’s impending free agency market continues to heat up as today it has been revealed that longtime Dallas Maverick Dirk Nowitzki has opted out of his contract with the team and will become a free agent on July 1st. Having spent his entire NBA career with the franchise since being drafted in 1998 and winning a championship in 2011, it looks like Dirk is looking for greener pastures, even though he previously stated that he would like to retire as a Maverick.
Upon the news being made public, more rumors have been floating around that the Golden State Warriors are interested in the 7 footer if they are unable to land the much coveted Kevin Durant. Only time will tell, but it is not farfetched to think that Nowitzki would look to perhaps end his career on a high note with a contender such as Golden State. This especially considering that his style of play fits perfectly with their offensive scheme.
