World Wide Woman: Laura Mvula Debuts Fiery Anthem Empowering Women Da'ryl Victoria April 21, 2016 Her Source British soul singer Laura Mvula announced her sophomore debut album, The Dreaming Room, by releasing a fiery, uptempo anthem to empower women. Described as a “1970’s-style gospel funk number,” “Phenomenal Woman” is an inspiring, dance-worthy message, giving women a sense of freedom and pride. “She battled trials and every kind of tribulation/ She reveled in adventure and imagination/ She never listened to no hater, liar/ Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.” Inspired by a poem of the same name by the legendary Maya Angelou, Mvula says, “I wrote this anthem to raise up our women. We are the givers of life, we are the children bearers, the nurturers, the heroines, we are extraordinary in our ordinariness, we fly, we fight we are ‘Phenomenal Woman.’” The Dreaming Room is set to release on June 17 through RCA Records featuring production and musical support from Troy Miller, Nile Rodgers, The London Sympathy Orchestra, Wretch 32 and Miles Davis collaborator John Scofield.
