The age-old argument between stay-at-home moms and career women can go on for years. Some may argue stay-at-home mommies have the toughest job there is; a round-the-clock, 24/7 job of taking care their children, but they don’t get paid for it.

According to How Stuff Works, the United States has 5 million full time moms, some who even quit lucrative careers to tend to their families. But hope is not lost for those moms who opted out of the traditional 9-to-5.

Check out some tips to for full-time mommies to opt into their monthly budget.

1.) Where is the Money Going?
Accessing where all of your money is going is vital to creating a secure, financial budget. You can’t help what you don’t address, so it’s important to keep track of every penny. What do you spend money on that you can make at home? Do you really need cable TV? Can you check off a few of those extra expenses on your phone bill? Be honest with yourself about your needs versus your wants.

2.) Cook Meals at Home That Will Last
Going out to eat can get really expensive. By the time you add up appetizers, drinks, money for tip and parking fare, you’ve spent more than you’d initially thought. Consider eating out a luxury, something you do to reward yourself for an accomplishment, or once every three weeks. Instead, opt for yummy at home meals that are not only cost efficient, but can last over the span of a few days.

Try different recipes, too. For example, when making a big pot of spaghetti sauce, put some sauce up for chilli night. Buy chicken in bulk and use it with different recipes throughout the week. Or if you must have a dinner night out, check out websites to see where kids eat free on certain days and times of the week.

3.) Coupons Are Your Friend

Oh, coupons, other wise known as, free money! Make it your duty to grab a Sunday newspaper and cut coupons for your household needs. Not only is it free, but a little piece of paper can save you money when buying what you would normally buy anyhow.

4.) Consider Part Time Work From Home
In today’s economy, there are valid opportunities to work from home and make some serious dough. Many companies off customer service positions where all you’ll need is WIFI and a phone. Check out some positions that are flexible that allow you to spend time at home, but make some extra cash on the side.
