14 years in the making and it is finally done…Sting will have his first match in the WWE on Sunday March 29 at the Levi Stadium in Wrestlemania 31

The unthinkable, unimaginable, and unlikely has happened once again in the sports entertainment world. With the less likely event many thought wouldn’t happen, the Mayweather/Pacquaio bout finally coming into existence, there’s another slept on announcement that many wrestling fans are going bananas over. Wrestling legend Sting will be suiting up to face Triple H, in one of the main events that’s on the viewing card for WWE‘s Wrestlemania 31 event. Dubbed “the biggest stage of them all”, and “the Super Bowl of wrestling”, Wrestlemania has the reputation of creating the biggest moments in wrestling history. From Hulk Hogan slamming Andre The Giant to win the World Heavyweight Championship in Wrestlemania 3 to Brock Lesnar defeat The Undertaker to put a end on the immortal, historical 21 match win streak at Wrestlemania 30, WWE hasn’t lost his touch in introducing magic surprises in the ring. From the looks of this year, the wrestling gods have blessed their die hard fans with a potential match of the decade.

If you were a true wrestling fan in the early 1980’s to the late 1990’s, you already know the face of the now non existent organization known as WCW (World Championship Wrestling) was Sting. Known as “The Franchise”. Sting became a fan favorite thanks to his golden “All American Boy” appearance, sporting wacky face painting while bringing the pain to this opponents night after night. In fact, many believed that his true claim to super stardom came when he defeated the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair for the heavyweight championship belt at the Clash of Champions event. A 6 time WCW world heavyweight champion, Sting was reintroduced to America and to the new generation of fans when we randomly reinvented his character in dark, avenger style known as Scarecrow. Face painted in all white with black eyeshadow make up, sporting a long black trench coat and a black bat, Sting had the crowd go insane whenever he popped up at the ceiling of sold out venues whenever WCW played host of a event. His most memorable moments came when he single handedly destroyed a Hulk Hogan led group who used to bully and terrorized the WCW known as NWO (New World Order). The rivalry between “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan and Sting was the biggest at the time. When Sting defeated Hollywood Hulk Hogan to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship belt at WCW Starcade in 1997, many wrestling insiders dubbed the match as wrestling’s most important match of all time.

Now at age 55, Steve Borden a.k.a Sting is back and ready to raise hell, this time against the WWE’s poster child Triple H. Feuding since Sting’s unpredicted cameo appearance at WWE’s Surivior Series in November of last year, Hunter Hearst Helmsley called out former WCW’s OG by challenging him to a match for the ages at this upcoming’s Wrestlemania event taken place in the Levi Stadium in California. A 13 time World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H’s charisma, strength and technical wrestling skills are prime reasons why he is considered top 5 one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of wrestling boots in the WWE. From his medieval gentleman like portrayal in his early career to the rebellious leader for the fan favorite crew known as D-Generation-X, “The Game” proves to fans over the years that he lives up to his catch phase: I Am the Game and I Am That Damn Good! Now, married to Stephanie McMahon (who you may remember as WWE’s princess to owner her father Vince McMahon), Triple H is plays the role as WWE’s COO, while making power moves and setting up huge entertaining matches for the WWE Universe. So when “The Game” called out “The Franchise” and Sting accepted it, everyone knew that in the words of former WWE commentator “Good ol” Jim Ross, this is going to be a slobber-knocker.

On Sunday March 29, 2015, history will be made. Sting vs Triple H. The Franchise vs. The Game. A match up many believed that would never happen is alive. This can be one of the most important matches in the 90’s golden era of wrestling as the new generation can finally get a whiff of the excitement that Sting brought to WCW night after night in which it made him a living legend. If you haven’t brought your ticket for this event, I suggest you hurry as tickets are flying off the selves. If you’re not able to make it to this year’s event, no worries. You can order Wrestlemania on per-per-view or just subscribe to the WWE network for $9.99. Your money would not go to waste as a potential classic is ready to be written inside the history books.

  • I’m sorry but the best would of been Sting vs The Undertaker. Triple H is a close second. WWE really f***ed up a great opportunity. I mean, something at least has to happen at Wrestlemania between Sting and the deadman. They’re at the same event! It’s inevitable.

People that want sting vs taker need to just go back and watch their match when they were younger, taker is broken, and sting is old, the match would be horrible. Sting still has a few good matches in him and HHH can help make it a good match.
Taker has to be carried in all his matches now, and Sting is too old to do that at this point.
