They put out a disclaimer, but still
Kevin Durant just won his first NBA MVP award last season, and despite his most recent injury–a foot fracutre that’s expected to keep him out until December–he’s widely regarded as one of the best players in the league, if not the best. So, when ESPN‘s annual list ranking the NBA’s top players has the Thunder superstar in the #8 slot, naturally, lots of jaws drop to the floor.
One of those jaws was Durant’s, who replied to the ESPN writer tasked with the short write-up accompanying ranking with a tweet that he quickly deleted. The writer, Royce Webb, claimed that “instead of shooting jumpers” Durant’s spending more time “shooting selfies”. Durant’s retort was comical, as are most of Durant’s responses to mainstream media headlines.
Naturally, ESPN felt they had the need to clarify the absurd ranking, which prompted this tweet.
