With the opening ceremony to the Olympic Games in Rio tonight [Friday, August 5] it’s time to get excited about US athletes/teams that are going to bring home the gold. The US Women’s soccer team got things started this week by beating New Zealand 2-0 on their quest for the gold, and the US Men’s basketball team is looking to go for the gold, with their first game tomorrow night against China.
And while the gold might not be in doubt for the US Men, they beat China twice in their showcase tour by 50 points and 49 points, the one topic that always surrounds the US Men’s basketball team is how they compare to the 1992 Dream Team. This year’s squad is not our best, it is lacking such superstars as LeBron James, Steph Curry and Russell Westbrook, but there is still no doubt that we will be playing for the gold in the championship game.
So to pass the time between now and then, ESPN has made the perfect game for you to play. On this website, you can choose your starting 5 from the top NBA superstars, even the ones who aren’t in Rio, and see which team gives you the best chance at replicating the success of the Dream Team.
And you might think it’s an easy task, but a team of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony and Anthony Davis only gets a 45 percent out of 100 percent on ESPN’s rating. Who will you choose for your starting five, and are they good enough to claim the elusive top ranking of 100 percent? Play it here.
