#FlashbackFriday: Eminem at the 2001 Source Awards

In 2001, Eminem was one of the hottest young artists in the game, and after breaking into the mainstream with his multi-platinum Slim Shady LP in 1999, he released the Marshall Mathers LP the very next year, solidifying his place as one of the best-selling and most popular rappers in the game. Along with his several personalities and alter egos, Em could often be found with D-12, the Detroit rap group he helped make extremely popular with their debut album, Devil’s Night, released in 2001.

One of the biggest hits off Devil’s Night was “Purple Pills,” which peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, and cracked the Top 3 in three different countries, helping to make D-12 a household name. To commemorate the monster stretch he was on, both as a solo artist and as a member of D-12, Em was invited to The Source Awards in 2001 to perform the smash with D-12, and you can watch an exclusive clip of that footage above.
