Last night’s Critic’s Choice Awards brought out the best of the best in television and film for the second time this month and Black Hollywood showed up in stunning fashion.
The Critics Choice Awards were presented by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and aim to honor the cinematic achievements of those in film and television.
Among the notable nominees this year were: Straight Outta Compton cast for Best Acting Ensemble, Dope star Shameik Moore for Best Young Actor, Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth for Best Song, “Blackish” star Anthony Anderson for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, “Blackish” star Tracee Ellis-Ross for Best Actress In A Comedy Series, “Empire” leading lady Taraji P. Henson for Best Actress In A Drama Series, The Wiz Live! star Shanice Williams for Best Actress In A Made For Television Movie, “Blackish” for Best Comedy Series, Empire for Best Drama Series and Jenifer Lewis for Best Guest Actress In A Drama Series (Blackish). Other nominees included Regina King, Idris Elba, Ne-Yo, David Alan Grier, Niecey Nash and Mary J. Blige.
Wiz Khalifa and Idris Elba both took home their first Critics’ Choice Awards, while most of the other African-American nominees fell short of clenching wins yet again. Nevertheless, there were certainly plenty of winners on the red carpet.
