It’s safe to say that 2015 is the year of Ava Duvernay.
With the success of her groundbreaking film, Selma, DuVernay has elevated the bar not just for women in Hollywood, but Hollywood directors in general. After becoming the first African-American woman to be nominated for the Golden Globe for “Best Director,” the Compton native is just getting started.
Now DuVernay has crossed over to mainstream because she will grace the cover of 1 of 8 issues of Elle Magazine‘s annual, Women in Hollywood. In her issue, Duvernay talks about what inspired her to create her Oscar winning film, Selma. She also opens up about her new documentary on fellow Compton native, Venus Williams titled, Venus v. Venus. Selma stars such as Common speaks about working with the director.
