Although it’s summer, many of us will still fall victim to a rainy day or two. You’ve possibly seen at least a couple of these movies, but they’re just as good the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time around…

Here’s a list of a few classic movies, perfect for your day in!

Love & Basketball

The patch of true love never did run smooth, but this love story about a pair of childhood sweethearts who both share a passion for basketball is just a dreamy as it sounds. Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps battle their feelings for one another before finally battling it out on the basketball court in perhaps on of the most romantic, tear-jerking scene of the entire movie. Somebody’s heart’s up for grabs. Love & Basketball will have you reaching for the Kleenex.

Brown Sugar

A must see for hip-hop lovers. This movie coined the phrase “When did you fall in love with hip-hop?”

Sanaa Lathan takes the role of the leading lady again, this time alongside Taye Diggs. Mos Def, Queen Latifah as well as real life husband and wife couple Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kudjoe. A great, all-star cast and the movie soundtrack is killer!

The Book Of Love: The Definitive Reason Why Men Are Dogs

The tale of three bachelors and their wily other halves who eventually cause their men to misbehave, Robin Givens, Treach, Eric K. George and Mari Morrow star in the movie. Cameos from Flex Alexander, Jagged Edge, Pepa and Taraji P. Henson. A good laugh.

The Proposal

The Proposal had to make the list. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds’ chemistry is too real in this romantic comedy. It’s full of laughs (many courtesy of comedy legend Betty White) and like most romantic comedies, has the obligatory teary moment or two and a gloriously cheesy ending (and I mean triple cheddar cheese!).

Something New

This movie tackles the issue of interracial love the uptight, picky workaholic leading lady Kenya (Lathan… I know. Her again!), meets the laid back, dog loving landscape gardener Brian (Simon Baker) who is instantly smitten. We see Kenya battle with her own views of dating outside of her race as Brian and his dog Max struggle to be accepted. A sweet tale. A must see!
