The popular “Block Party LA” concert series returns for round two with headliner Talib Kweli.
Starting at 12 p.m. On May 9, prepare yourselves for “Block Party LA” to take over the entire block of 3200 Union Pacific Ave between Grande Vista Ave and East Pico Blvd. “Block Party LA” is all about shouting out some underrated artists on the scene like Curtiss King, Terrace Martin, Preston Harris, Dean Risko, Alex Isley, Ramaj Eroc, The League, NameBrand, Jake&Papa, Craig Gillespie, Tassnata + Junia-T and Rook. Not only will there be music, but in keeping with the spirit of a real block party there will be food, provided by food trucks as well interactive stations. A portion of the proceeds go to the Children’s Defense Fund scholarship program “Beat the Odds,” which strives to give every child equal opportunities by providing them with an equal, fair and moral start.
Block Party founder Ashley Glaspie spoke about her goals with the event:
My goal with Block Party LA is to give independent artists a solid foundation and space where artists have the opportunity to leave a legacy … I was raised to give back and with that instilled in me combined with my love for music “Block Party LA” has become my way of giving back to the community and helping my generation to feel empowered to chase their dreams.
