Dubbed a healer by Sway Calloway, Mike  Smith decided to follow a passion and teamed with friend and business partner Jonathan Hay to create SMH Records.

A few weeks back, Smith went on Calloway’s Sway in the Morning (Shade 45) show alongside Crooked and DJ King Tech – to announce the One Shot show. A brainchild of the Crooked I, One Shot is a reality competition show for rappers who want to become the next big Hip-Hop star. Spearheaded by SMH Records, One Shot will travel through eight cities in search of emcees looking for their big break. Smith, Crook, Tech, and special musical guests will act as the judges for the competition, with the winner receiving $100k and a record deal.

Other folks involved with the show include Jonathan Hay, Kathy Iandoli and Kim Osorio. Check out the behind the scenes video of One Shot and SMH Records starring Crooked I.

As co-founder, of SMH Records, Smith has been a key part of the current successes of the company and all of its projects. In its early stages, Smith reportedly helped raise $30 million in investor capital, a feat that shocked the entertainment world.

Armed with impressive business savvy, but far from just another suit in a boardroom, his hands-on approach with the music created has led to Smith working with a list of household music names such as DJ Whoo Kid, Slaughterhouse, Dizzy Wright, Cyhi the Prynce, Nappy Roots, Inspectah Deck of Wu-Tang Clan, Justice League, DJ Revolution, Royce da 5’9, Troy Ave, DMC of Run DMC.

Recently, Smith signed Slaughterhouse’s Crooked I and Horseshoe Gang which in turn has put him in a position to become a developer of artists.

Make sure to also keep an eye out for “Sex, Money and Hip Hop,” the mixtape experience executive produced by Crooked I, Jonathan Hay and Mike Smith that is scheduled for release on December 16.
